Why Now
Families are busy. As a wife and mom of three girls aged 7-12, I get it. Between my full-time marketing job and volunteer work, the kids’ homework and activities, plus family time and obligations; it’s a lot! Our family’s approach? We are intentional about what we say “yes” to.
My personal values drive me to live a life of purpose and with that comes a passion for helping people, particularly children. I’m a team leader and host parent for the organization Together for Good which provides support to families in crisis and helps to prevent children from going into the foster system. As a parent, I’ve enjoyed being a volunteer in my girls’ schools. The teachers and admins were amazing, which we expected since we were told that the Osseo school district is great when we bought our home in Maple Grove seven years ago. So, we’re good, right?
Then in 2020, I began watching school board meetings online to learn more about what decisions were being made regarding our schools. I didn’t realize how much information parents have access to and the opportunities that exist for parents to get involved before policy decisions are implemented in the schools. I was surprised to learn about policies that I wanted to speak up about! Time to say “yes.”
After that, I leveled up my involvement and spent multiple years on school board advisory committees. These committees were helpful for me to understand how our district functions and to see the broader needs of our school district. However, I found that my role as a parent advisor was limited. I’m a relational person so I started making connections with people in the community, particularly those facing challenges as non-English speakers and people of varying faiths. That lead me to become a parent advocate at school board meetings. All of this still didn’t feel like enough though; it was time for another “yes.”
I want to go all-in and become a member of the school board.
I want to be a voice for the parents and caregivers who don’t have the time, knowledge or resources to be informed or advocate for their children.
I want to use my creativity, strategic-thinking skills and ability to partner with all types of people to make real decisions that elevate academics.
I want to vote on policies that ensure that all families in our district, including underrepresented groups, feel safe, respected and empowered.
Our school district is at a crossroads and I want to step forward and offer my patient, honest and dependable nature to work for the students, families and staff of the Osseo school district!
I want to Foster Student Success!
