- Parent Advocate, Osseo School District first generation families

If you are generous enough to stick around a little longer, let me tell you more.
I like to think of myself as a Minnesotan with detours. I spent my formative years in Cloquet, MN, but my family relocated around the US due to my father’s job in newspapers. By the time I graduated high school, I had attended 13 schools and was living in Southern California. Although tough at times, all those moves taught me resilience and pushed me to embrace a challenge. Plus, I gained an appreciation and respect for different cultures and all types of people.
I earned a BS degree in Marketing and immediately went to work supporting the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. I love how authentic the people are and the adventure of seeing a project from start to final completion.
I want to model for my girls that in a world where people shy away from serving, we lean in.
After college I made the leap to Long Beach, California where I met my now husband of 14 years, Scott. In addition to embracing the outdoors, we had countless opportunities to contribute to and embrace the multi-cultural community of Long Beach with our girls. Fun fact: my oldest daughter had an actual Nigerian princess as her pre-K teacher! I served as a block leader for the non-profit group, We Love Long Beach, whose mission is to connect neighbors of all ages to create a stronger feeling of belonging and well-being. It was an incredible experience for our entire family to help virtual strangers become a community.
While my husband worked full-time in the church, I chose to stay home with my girls for nine years while doing freelance marketing. Although we had wonderful experiences in California, we moved to Minnesota nearly 7 years ago and have made Maple Grove our home ever since.
My heart for helping people also found new ways to root in Maple Grove. My husband and I are fans of the public school system, so I found myself at our daughters’ elementary as often as possible as a classroom volunteer or helping in the volunteer room. For the past 5 years, I have also worked with the organization Together For Good which provides a network of care to support families who are in crisis. For us, this means we may take in kids for a weekend or more, provide meals for families, give rides, or just offer a listening ear. I want to model for my girls that in a world where people shy away from serving, we lean in.
I returned to the commercial construction industry as a full-time Marketing Manager in 2021 and around this same time I became involved in school district committees. Now, after spending four years working with other parents to engage the school board and district administration, I’m ready to put my skills and passion for service to use by seeking a Osseo school board position.
See more about why I’m running on the Why Now page.
